The magic of rails golden age has been brought to life in Kilmeadan, Co Waterford. A heritage narrow gauge railway follows 8.5 kilometers of the abandoned Waterford - Dungarvan route, from the station at Kilmeadan in to Gracedieu Junction. Experience the beauty of the Suir Valley from a period carriage as you take in the panoramic views of the river, rolling farmland and mountains. The track runs mostly along the picturesque banks of the River Suir, beside Waterford Greenway offering a glimpse in to the world famous Mount Congreve Gardens. You can now disembark the train at Mount Congreve Gardens Platform to visit the Gardens.

This is an area rich in history dating back to the Vikings. The rolling stock includes a restored Simplex Locomotive, which had an arduous working life in the peat industry in the North of England and Scotland. It was also used in excavating the Channel Tunnel. It now hauls two carriages with fully enclosed and partially opened seating to choose from. All weather protections is available for the open section. Enjoy a leisurely journey traveling at an average speed of 15km per hour. Other restored diesel engines are on display at the station.

We welcome school tours to Kilmeaden Station for a fun and educational trip on our train. At Halloween we run the scary Spooky Express, and at Christmas we run the very popular Santa Express. We also run a Sunset Express and trains during the February Mid Term Break / October Mid Term Break.
