Family Fun Events 2016
Every Sunday and Wednesday throughout the summer, Waterford & Suir Valley Railway run Choo Choo Fun Days. Depending on the event, you will meet various characters at the station before your train journey. Bring your own picnic or purchase it in Centra or Gala in Kilmeadan Village, there are indoor and outdoor picnic tables available. Snacks and Refreshments are available in the ticket office carriage.
Teddy Bears Picnic
Take a 40-minute journey on the train and on your return to the station enjoy a picnic with the Teddy Bears. Bring your own picnic or goody bags and refreshments may be purchased in the carriage shop.
Mayfield Birds of Prey
Chat to our local Falconers and meet some of their beautiful owls. Bobbins and Boo the Barn Owls, Izzy the Bengal Eagle Owl and Holly the Harris Hawk are just some of the many owls in their collection. Learn how to looks after them, what they eat and how they are trained. If you are lucky you might get to hold one, feed them or watch them fly.
Wednesday 10th August - Enjoy a picnic with the Teddy Bears
Sunday 14th August - Mondo the Magician will amaze you with his magic. There will be a magic show before each train trip so come along about 30 minutes before the time you want to travel to enjoy the show.
Wednesday 17th August - Enjoy a picnic with the Teddy Bears
Sunday 21st August - Super Hero Sunday and Face Painting. Have your little ones come dressed as their favourite Super Hero or Villain and meet our Super Heroes at Kilmeadan Station before or after your train trip.
Wednesday 24th August - Enjoy a picnic with the Teddy Bears
Sunday 28th August - Heritage Week Event - Viking Express.
The trains at 12noon, 1pm , 2pm and 3pm will bring you to the Woodstown Viking Site, Carriganore where Waterford City & County Council will host a Viking Family Day from 12noon to 4pm.
Disembark at the Woodstown Viking Site, Carriganore to join an afternoon of family friendly heritage activities that include, Archaeology in a Box- Dig for Kids, wattle fence and mud brick making and medieval archery. Guided walks with archaeologist, James Eogan and wildlife enthusiast, Paddy Dwan will explore and discuss the Viking history of Woodstown and the rich wildlife and cultural heritage of the River Suir. Bring a picnic and enjoy the views while discovering the rich heritage of the River Suir.
The 4pm and 5pm trains will be the regular Sunday journey without the Viking Experience. Meet the Mayfield Birds of Prey at Kilmeadan Station.

Saturday 24th September - GRAND PARENTS WEEKEND - As a thank you to Grand Parents for their custom during the year - just bring along a grand-child and you travel FREE on the train 11am to 3pm today. The journey on a Saturday goes as far as the Toll Plaza for the River Suir Bridge and lasts almost an hour.
South East Amateur Radio Group will broadcast from Kilmeadan Station for "Railways on the Air".

Trains depart Kilmeadan Station on the hour from 12noon with last train at 5pm on Sunday and 11am last train at 4pm on Wednesday. In September the schedule finishes an hour earlier.
The train schedule may be altered slightly with extra trains added if there is demand on the day.
We do not take advance bookings. There is no extra charge for these events.
