Tour 1

Schedule: Every hour on the hour between 10am and 4pm.

Fares: Child group rate €4 per child - 1 teacher/adult travels free with every 10 children.

Duration: 50 Minutes

Capacity: 90 passengers

Choose a Character: For Preschools only. Choose one of our fun characters when you make your booking. They will be at the station to greet you before and after your train trip.

The magic of rail has been brought to life at Kilmeaden. Board the train at Kilmeaden station and journey through the countryside and along by the River Suir. The trip is fun and educational as you learn about the history of the area, passing sights such as the ruins of Kilmeaden Castle, well preserved lime kilns and the recently discovered site of a very important Viking settlement in Woodstown. Make a wish in the Magic Wood and journey though a 40 metre tunnel under the N25. You also get a glimpse in to the world famous Mount Congreve Gardens.

Younger children enjoy the excitement of being on a train and relate to the smaller carriages, little diesel engine and narrow gauge track. The 17km round trip takes 50 minutes as the train travels at 16km per hour.

The Nature Express

Time Outside Nature Walks - Guided Tour - Waterford & Suir Valley Railway - Waterford Greenway

Board a heritage train at Kilmeadan station to journey through the countryside and along the banks of the River Suir, beside Waterford Greenway. Disembark the train at Carriganore where nature guide and author, Paddy Dwan will meet you and take you on another journey through nature. Discover the wonderful bird life, flora and fauna along the banks of the River Suir and the railway line. Learn what life would have been like in Viking Age Waterford for those living in the Woodstown settlement. Paddy is passionate about this historic area and he loves to share it with and enthuse others. You can explore and learn as you walk along the safe and beautiful Waterford Greenway. This School Tour is both fun and educational and suitable for all ages.

  • Kilmeadan Station to Carriganore 25mins by train
  • Carriganore to Mount Congreve platform 1 hour guided walk.
  • Mount Congreve platform to Kilmeadan Station 10 mins by train.
  • There are picnic tables available at Kilmeadan Station if you bring a picnic lunch.
